How to get Nail Polish out of your Carpet.

Let me start by saying this will depend and vary on the type of carpet you have. Not all carpets are the same and results will vary. Also do a test on a small portion of the carpet before you try any of these removers before you ruin the carpet. Please also note that this was done on fresh nail polish and not old nail polish.

Let me tell you a little story. I have always painted my toes in my living room. Always! I enjoy being able to watch T.V. and paint my toes. They dry to a perfect finish and nothing out of the ordinary happens. Until this crazy thing happened and I was left shocked and speechless. This nail polish you see there on the carpet is Revlon Cherries in the Snow. It is such a pretty color and I loved it even more that I was able to find it at 75% off at CVS last year. Did I also tell you that Cherries in the Snow is very and I mean very liquidy for a polish. Some nail polishes are thicker than others and this one just so happen to have the consistency of water.

I can't even tell you how it happened because it happened so quickly that I just stared at the mess for like 5 seconds before springing into action. I do not even understand how it made the mess that it did, when it fell it seemed to just go everywhere and it pooled in one section. After my shock, I ran to get paper towels and just started blotting the carpet. The carpet after being blotted looked like this.

Yes, I know it looked like I killed someone in my living room but the only thing I killed was my carpet along with my sense of smell. (I thought how am I telling my husband that we need to either replace the carpet or have it professionally cleaned)? And mind you, my carpet color is light beige! Do you see that little bottle of nail polish remover? That is a small Target brand bottle of acetone. After noticing that blotting with acetone and paper towels was not going to do I went for my phone and started taking pictures and of course searching the net to see how I was going to clean this mess.

There are a lot of different ways I found to clean it, with most of the techniques recommending not to pour acetone straight on the carpet. So I decided to compile my own method and I gathered my own supplies.

You will also need acetone, hydrogen peroxide and lots and lots of paper towels. Also note, I have a personal carpet cleaner that I used as well.

Start by blotting the stain and taking off as much as you can with just the paper towel. Blot away until the nail polish is no longer wet on the paper towel. Second, put some acetone on the paper towel and continue to blot. Some sites recommended not to pour acetone directly on to the stain because it can dissolve the carpet adhesive. I was desperate and went against those recommendations and poured.. Yes, the pouring helped especially on the one part where the nail polish had pooled for 5 seconds. By this time open your windows, your doors because it's going to smell a lot like acetone. If you can wear gloves because this process also dried out my hands big time. Don't think that it's going to come off in like ten minutes. Oh no, this second process took me three hours. Yes, three hours and I was still watching T.V. trying not to go crazy with the acetone smell. That little bottle of acetone did not last and I had to go out and buy 4 more large bottles at CVS all the while being carded because it's like cough syrup you can only buy so many at a time.

Ok, this is what it looked like after three hours of just blotting with acetone.

Not bad right, compared to the picture above. Let's also note that my carpet needed a good cleaning and I was going to clean it when it got really hot so that it could dry in a day. Well this little fiasco moved things up a bit.

At this point I was getting nervous again because I wanted to stain to magically disappear. So, in comes the hydrogen peroxide. I again poured a little to the stains and continued to blot with paper towels. After one hour of blotting with peroxide it looked like this.

Better right but still not where it needs to be. I went to bed exhausted and decided to tackle it in the morning. I felt confident enough that this was as good as it was going to get for today.

In the morning I decided to put some baking soda on the stains and pour some peroxide making a paste on the carpet and I started to scrub with that little brush that you see in the product picture. Before I scrubbed I let the paste sit there for about a min and then started to scrub. I do not have any pictures of that process but it made a heck of a difference. I let it semi dry and then I also put about a teaspoon of blue dawn in about 8 cups of warm water and began brushing again.

I let it semi dry again and by the afternoon I pulled out my carpet cleaner and used some simple green to clean the carpet. This is the final result.

I had not vacuumed the carpet because I was waiting for it to dry. My husband could not tell where I had spilled the nail polish which was my goal in the first place. Once I vacuumed it looked even better. You can still tell in the picture but it's 99% gone. I'm happy and I will now paint my toes in the bathroom where we have tile :)
This was just way too much work!

Rimmel London Kate Moss Lipsticks 107, 111, 10

I found a Holiday Display at my CVS and it had two lipsticks 107 and 111 and two eye shadows, and a black and silver eyeliners. The display was kind of high so I could not take a picture of it. I do not own many Rimmel lipsticks other than airy fairy and another Kate lipstick in number 10. I decided to swatch these since they are all reds and are perfect for the holidays.

107 is more of a dark burgundy red. It definitely has more of a burgundy tone compared to the other two.
111 is more of a tomato red with slight orange tones to it. It's a bright shade of red.
10 is cool tone and has some slight blue tones. This one is definitely more of a true based red than the other two.

They have a slight smell to them a light fragrance and they are not matte but more of a cream which is good because they feel nice on the lips.

Not bad for the price $5.99 and they do last for a good 4 hours without eating (I only drank coffee).

Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick Catfight & Anarchy Review

I first saw these lipsticks on Instagram. What caught my eye is that UD claims they are bad ass color because they are incredibly pigmented and hydrating. Well, I am a sucker for a good lipstick so I thought I'd give them a shot. I researched the colors online because at the time no one had them yet, they were only available online. I knew I wanted a vibrant pink for the summer and I wanted a red but a red that was different from everything I have.

Anarchy is described as a bright fuchsia and Catfight is described as a pink fuchsia with a slight red undertone. These lipsticks are amazing. They are bright, their color is super pigmented and you only need one swipe to get that rich and intense color. The color lasts at least 5 hours without eating ( I drank water and had no problem) and when I did have lunch it left a slight stain on the lips which is not bad. The lipsticks do not have a scent to them and the packaging is nice. The bullets are metal which is different from what I own.

Urban Decay's website says they are creamy bad ass luxury. Their pigment infusion system delivers insane color payoff with creamy shine. Maxi-Lip plumps and nourishing oils leave lips cushiony soft.

These lipsticks are insane and I want all the colors along with the matching lip liners. You can get them here and they retail for $22.00.

These lipsticks were purchased by me.

MAC Temperature Rising Feel My Pulse Lipstick

I purchased a couple of items from the MAC Temperature Rising Collection. I have a swatch of Feel My Pulse crème sheen lipstick. I did not think I was going to like it after I swatched it. I think it's perfect for summer and fall. It's a purple with specks of fuchsia in it. I purchased it because I don't own anything like it. My favorite by far are the lip glosses in that collection.

I also purchased items from the All About Orange Collection and will have swatches and pictures up as soon as I receive them.

My CVS Beauty Clearance Haul

Thanks to Nouveau Cheap for posting about the CVS beauty clearance, you can find her post here for the full list of all the products that are on clearance.  A few things worth mentioning. All of my items were not marked on clearance as you can see. All of the Orly nail polishes were 50% off, the treatments were not on clearance. The Almay is a good deal, some stores have $2 dollar coupons making some of the items free like the makeup remover. The Essence brush cleanser is $1.25 and after having tried it, it's not bad. However, if you want a deep cleanse to your brushes use another product. Did you get anything from the CVS clearance?

Avon Ideal Flawless BB Cream

Everyone and I mean everyone has a BB cream is seems like. And now they are moving on to the CC creams. My favorite BB creams are Stila's and Flower by Drew Barrymore. Avon's is no exception when they say their BB cream hydrates, even skin tone and all that jazz. For those of you who want a more formal explanation of what it does here's the scoop from their website Avon.com

Lightweight coverage. 10-in-1 Beauty Balm:
- infused with Vitamin E
- infused with minerals and antioxidants
- hydrates skin
- evens skintone
- visibly minimizes redness

- conceals flaws
- lightweight feel
- smoothes skin
- SPF 15 protection
- skin looks better even after removing*

I always have a problem with BB creams and their shades. Some seem way to gray and some that leave on a white cast because of the SPF. I like my BB creams with no SPF so it does not leave a white cast in case you take pictures. Avon's does have SPF and I have not tired to take pictures with it on. I like the feel and I like the texture. The texture is on the thin side and it does have very light shimmer particles which I do not like but they seem to go away if you put some powder on top. It did even out my skin tone and hydrated my skin. After about the 4 hour mark it seems to fade away and I did get shiny in my t-zone. The shade I purchased is medium and as far as shades go it's a true neutral medium. Overall, the price point is not bad (I paid $7.99 for it on sale) and if your going to run some errands and want to skip moisturizer and go straight for a BB cream this one could be your go to one.

My Revlon Total Beauty Box

This came so fast I could not believe it. I wanted to show you some pictures because I am really impressed with packaging and the colors.

I took pictures of the Revlon butter swatches but I did not swatch the eye shadow yet. I did swipe the nail color on one of my nails and this may be my favorite neutral color. I will review that later and give you some swatches of that as well. The lip butters are Pink Lemonade and Sorbet. The lighter one did not swatch all that well and I'm hoping the color lasts as well.

Overall, I am highly impressed by the look of this Limited Edition Revlon collection. I just hope they eye shadows stay true to color and last with a primer.

NOTD Macaroon Me Madly by L'Oreal

I had seen numerous pictures on Instagram regarding the limited edition Versailles collection of nail polishes and colour Riche balms. There were a couple of nail polishes that I wanted but only purchased Macaroon Me Madly. I am not a huge fan of pastels but Spring is coming and I thought why not.
The pictures show two coats a top coat and seche vite. The first coat applied awfully and was streaky. I hoped that by the second one it would go away and apply more evenly. It did and it turned out ok. It's a pretty pinky pastel color and I have to admit I want the rest in the collection.
I took a picture of Orange you jealous by Macaroon me madly so that you can see how pale the pink really is. These two may also make a good ombré nail which I may try.

Stila Color Balm Lipsticks & Swatches

I purchased these at IMATS. I saw them and I thought ehh, I don't think I want them. I had not swatched them yet but what drew me to them was this color called betsey. I walked around and did not think about them again, until we were about to leave. Betsey kept calling my name and I walked over and swatched them. I was in LOVE..

Let me tell you a little something about why I do not like Stila lipsticks. Back in the day before the brand was sold the lipsticks used to last about 4 to 6 months and then started to smell funny and the textures changed. The old cardboard packing did not help that either. I had about 4 lipsticks and ALL of them turned ugly. Since then I vowed never to buy Stila lipsticks again.

Well, what a couple of years make and the brand being sold. These are not their regular lipsticks and they are not in cardboard packing either. I don't think they even sell regular lipsticks anymore do they? They are cute and even have a mirror on the top of the tube. I am hoping they are not the same formulation as the previous lipsticks they had but I doubt it since these are labeled balms.

    From their website:

A modern take on traditional lipstick, this creamy lip color provides the full pigment load of a lipstick, yet delivers the nourishing properties of a balm. Featuring a luxe, satin finish, this formula offers excellent color payoff while phyto-derived emollient properties deliver hydrated, healthy lips. Naturally cooling peppermint oil provides a fresh and rejuvenating sensation on the lips, while an exclusive certified organic sunflower-based polyglyceride soothes, smoothes, and adds volume and definition to lips.

We've pre-launched multiple shades, with more to come!

    Features & Benefits:

    • Luxuriously creamy and hydrating formula with excellent phytoderived emollient properties
    • Certified organic sunflower based polyglycerides hydrates and smooth lip contours, while adding volume and definition
    • Naturally cooling peppermint oil is an emollient-rich botanical that provides excellent antiseptic and astringent benefits with a refreshing tingle that both soothes and stimulates irritated lips
    • Knocked-out Stila logo on cap, color-matched to the shade within for easy at-shelf navigation
    • A handy mirror on top of the cap for easy application on-the-go

Now, they are right on the full pigment these lipsticks do pack a punch of color. When you apply, they apply easily and you will smell peppermint which is smoothing to the lips. I purchased Betsey and Amelia. Betsey is a bright magenta pink on the tube and when swatched you can see it has a blue tone magenta pink to it. I cannot wear it full on from the tube because it is bright. I did apply slightly as more of a stain and I LOVED it. It did last about 4 hrs without having to re-apply. Amelia is a pink as well but more toned down and it is a medium pink. They are creamy and smooth and feel wonderful on the lips and they are cooling on the lips as well. My lips are a little chapped right now and Amelia looks better than the Betsey because even though they are a balm they will emphasize dry spots.
The packaging is super cute. They have a mirror and the inside lining of the lipstick is the same shade as the lipstick. The outside letters that say STILA are also the same color of the lipstick.
Overall, this lipstick deserves a B because I'm hoping that they will last at least 6 months without changing. Why 6 months, because I am a lipstick addict and have so many that I  need time to try them out.

    IMATS 2013

I have gone to IMATS for the last 5 years and the first year was the best. I took some pictures but the pictures do not really show how crowded it was. I was really disappointed this year. Not only was it too early (January) but MUFE was not there and neither was Urban Decay or NYX. MUFE was being sold by Naime's but it was not the same as if they had been there. It seems like IMATS is more of a consumer show rather than a trade show which is why I think there were less makeup brands there. I remember the first time I went Clarisonic was there and they have not been back since.
    Enjoy the pics.

Physicians Formula Sexy Booster Gloss Review

I caved and bought the new Sexy Booster gloss from Physicians Formula. I was more intrigued by the scent than anything else, after all it is suppose to have Pheromone boosting blend. Well I am happy to say that is smells like vanilla and the smell does not last long.

It has a doe foot wand and it has the cutest packaging. They have two colors Pink and Red and I chose the Red. It's a gloss that is also a stain and is kissproff. Well, it does stain and it does come out like a gloss but has the finish of a lipstick. Once the shine comes off (and it does) it acts more like a stain but the color is diminished. So you are left with like a red tinted lip that looks like you were drinking a lot of kool-aid. I do not like that look so after eating you need to re-apply. The color is not that bright like on my picture (my camera phone was not cooperating) but it's more of a muted cool based red.

Overall, it's not a bad purchase and I'm pleasantly surprised that the smell does go away and the color does suit my skin tone. I don't know if I will purchase the Pink one though. Thoughts?
